Laptop Lab decodes the numbers that actually decide how a laptop performs — CPU generation naming (Core Ultra series 1 vs 2, Ryzen's 4-digit code), TDP wattage class (U vs H vs HX), display nits and color coverage, RAM soldered-vs-SODIMM, and battery Wh — not the marketing copy on the listing. We don't publish prices or star ratings, every pick names an honest drawback, and we stick to manufacturer-published specs, never invented benchmarks.
Most "best laptop" lists repeat the model name and call it a day. We start from the spec sheet: a "Core Ultra 7" can mean two different chip generations, the same Ryzen name can run at three different wattages, and a "1000 nits" claim is often a peak the panel can't sustain. We're a research-based site: we analyze manufacturer specification pages (Intel, AMD, Apple, USB-IF/Thunderbolt), official product documentation, and aggregated owner-feedback themes rather than lab-benchmarking every laptop.
